The Temples

Iskcon Brahmapura

Sri Sri Rama Govinda Mandir, Brahmapura (Berhampur) - by Pradosh prabhu

Towards the end of 1995 a pious couple who were devoted to Lord Rama, and attracted by our Krsna Consciousness movement came to meet with our Srila Gurudeva all the way from the prominent southern Odishan town of Brahmapura (previously Berhampur). Since there was no Iskcon Temple in the town, the couple petitioned Srila Gurudeva to establish one there. They had a quite big patch of land just outside of town, which they offerered to Srila Gurudeva and prayed to him that he would build a Temple of Lord Rama there. Srila Gurudeva in his reply told them, "You are devotees of Lord Rama, therefore you would like us to build a temple for Lord Rama, but I am a devotee of Krsna, so I would like to build a Temple of Krsna." Out of his causeless mercy, Srila Gurudeva assured them, “All right, we will construct a beautiful temple dedicated to both Krsna and Rama”. Some months later, Srila Gurudeva departed this world. This was his last founded project.

A few years after Srila Gurdeva’s divine disappearance, in the year 2000, the cornerstone ceremony was held in the presence of the then GBC H.H. Bhakti Swarupa Damodara Swami, and a small Hanuman temple constructed. The Temple project is under the good management of Sri Caitanya Candra Prabhu Maharaja. There will soon be the Temple opening ceremony and festival for the already established beautiful deities of their Lordships Sri Sri Radha Govinda and Sri Sri Sita Rama and Laxman.
